We have a local baseball team here in Buckeye that really needs some recognition for outstanding effort. They are the Buckeye 88’s – 12-13 year old boys in AAA ball. The Buckeye 88’s have been together for over 5 years with over 250 games played. There are 11 players, Tim Traver #10, Steven Vasquez #42, Cort Butler #5, Brody Fay #32, Mike Cullen #9, Brandon Compton #27, Caleb McGuire #55, Jason Dudley #21, Austin Kubica #47, Trevor Baugh #11, Corbin Triplett #44, and 4 coaches; head coach Brad Fay, assistant coaches Tim Traver, Steve Vazquez, and Jason Woliver.
They started as tee ball playing local boys and have grown into a baseball team who is the best in the nation in their age group. Currently the Buckeye 88’s are ranked #1 in Arizona on USSSA 13u AAA and #5 in the Nation USSSA 13u AAA. Their seasons run from September to June/July and they have played from the East Coast (Cooperstown New York) to the West (Colorado and California). Before every game they chant, “One team, one game, all heart, 1, 2, 3 - 88’s!” This chant has become their motto. The Buckeye 88’s get their name from the year the city of Buckeye was founded, year 1888. All the coaches, parents, families and players put their heart and soul into this team that represents their city and for the great game of baseball.
Please come out and support our local team the Buckeye 88’s in their quest for the tournament victory. They play every other weekend (Feb 27, March 12, March 26, etc…) Season runs from September to July.To contact the team, call Tim Traver at (623) 695-1131.
